Power Outages, downed wires that are live - and dangerous - plus a few feet of snow have left New Jersey and other areas of the East Coast shut down.

In our area, trees have once again come down, and one home in Upper Montclair luckily had their tree hit the front part of the roof, luckily not crashing through to injure the family.

Another major issue are downed wires, which can kill anyone stepping on them if they are live. Please stay away from any downed wires and warn your children.

Commuter news - Many lines including Montclair Boston are not running due to downed trees.

In Manchester, N.J. a middle school teacher holding an umbrella was struck by thunder-snow lightning. She was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

With snow totals ranging from one foot to over 2 feet, New Jersey is reeling from the second storm to blanket the area in one week.

Snow totals reported in our area include:

North Caldwell: 23 inches

Roseland: 19 inches

Caldwell: 17.8 inches

West Orange: 14.5 inches

Montclair: 12 inches

Glen Ridge: 12 inches

Nutley: 12 inches

Verona: 12 inches

Essex Fells: 7.5 inches

Other areas in N.J. were hit much harder with snow:

Oakland: over 2 feet

Warren: over 2 feet

Power outages also plague our the North East area, with hundreds of thousands sitting in the dark. Both JCPL and PSEG have crews on the scene in N.J. and are working to fix the problems. Currently, at 5:00 AM about 50,000 are missing power in Essex County and 7,000 in Jersey City.

Due to the storm and it's after effects including downed wires, icy roadways and power outages in some ares, schools are closed for Thursday, March 8.

.

As of now, the following schools will be closed tomorrow, March 8:

Montclair Schools

Caldwell and West Caldwell Schools

Nutley Schools

Jersey City Schools

As schools closings are added, updates to follow.
