The competition rewards our region's top young artists with scholarships for up to $1,500 to enable them to study the performing arts at PTW. This is a chance for PTW to give back to the community and to give talented young artists opportunities to learn their craft.

For PTW's Executive Artistic Director, Dean Kravitz, scholarships are about much more than offering free classes, since his family’s history has deep roots in his own mom receiving a scholarship.

"My mother, Esther Kravitz, received a merit scholarship when she was in her early teens,” noted Kravitz. “As a result of that scholarship, my mother was able to pursue her dream and was soon accepted into Julliard School of Music as a pianist and composer, where she met my father, Howard Kravitz. Together, they founded Performers Theatre Workshop as a place for talented young artists to learn their craft in a non-competitive, nurturing environment with top-notch faculty.

“If it weren't for that merit scholarship given to my mother, there would be no Performers Theatre Workshop.  Because of this amazing opportunity my mother received, as well as my belief in paying it forward in life as part of appreciation for what I've received from others, I created the PTW Esther and Howard Kravitz Scholarship Fund.

“The initiatives of the scholarship fund enable PTW to give opportunities to talented young artists that they otherwise wouldn't have. This allows students to pursue their passion and dreams in the performing arts with the expert training they so deserve."

By sharing this enriching opportunity with your children, you will help PTW continue to make a powerful difference in the lives of New Jersey's youth with inspiring performing arts education, as we have done for close to 4 decades.
