Opera Theatre of Montclair (OTM) presents its fourth mainstage production in town:

Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Cinderella)

Fridays, September 15 and 22, 8 PM

Saturdays, September 16 and 23, 4 PM

The United Way Theatre

60 South Fullerton Avenue, Montclair

La Cenerentola is Rossini’s comedic take on the classic Cinderella story. Additionally, in this version, stage director Nicholas Tamagna will reset the action to a 1920s movie set. Expect tap dancing, rubber chickens, slapstick and Charlie Chaplinesque antics in addition to virtuoso singing in this fully staged and costumed production. The Opera Orchestra of Montclair will be conducted by Fernando Palomeque. The set design is by Joyce Korotkin with costumes by David Gillam.

The opera will be sung in the original Italian with English supertitles. This is the perfect introduction to opera for all ages. The nonprofit Opera Theatre of Montclair is committed to making opera accessible by keeping ticket prices low, to giving opportunities to local professional opera singers and to supplementing music education programs through outreach. One reviewer called OTM’s performances “Opera in your face!” due to the close proximity of its trained operatic voices to the audience.

This is the first time that OTM will be performing in the historic United Way Theatre. Free off-street parking is available behind the building, and it is handicapped accessible. Enjoy strolling among the lush Avis Campbell Gardens, located directly behind the building, before the show. The theatre is located steps from Montclair Center and its celebrated restaurants and shops. Montclair, New Jersey, is easily reached via public transportation from New York City by NJ Transit train or Decamp Bus.
