Nutley past Mayor Peter Scarpelli, an esteemed resident of Nutley known for his many civic accomplishments, has passed away. Peter Scarpelli's son is Mayor Dr. Joseph Scarpelli, who is the second generation in this family to hold the honor of mayor. Besides Mayor Dr. Joe Scarpelli, Peter Scarpelli, 81, leaves behind children Trisha and his son the late Michael Scarpelli, plus 7 grandchildren (one deceased).
Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr., who lived in Nutley for many years, sent a statement about the passing of Peter Scarpelli.
“I am saddened by the passing of Peter Scarpelli," noted Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr. "He was a dedicated family man and devoted to his hometown of Nutley as a longtime Commissioner and Mayor. Essex County also benefitted from his expertise as a member of our Planning Board and past member of our public works staff. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
