With the aging infrastructure of schools a plague across the U.S., the district Montclair is handling their numerous structure issues with new plans. Creative thinking is reportedly leading the way for the district to jump in and correct the problems starting in the spring.

Since asbestos, a dangerous substance linked to cancer, could be released into the air during work to repair and/or replace part of the crumbling structure of the High School including the stairways to the third floor and parts of classrooms, the district must do word when no students, teachers, or staff are on site.

This May, according to The Mountaineer, Montclair High School's insightful newspaper run by students, the plan will include a shift system that will launch in May for students.

The overall idea as reported by The Mountaineer writer and junior Joe Held is to remove everyone from this main High School and have freshman and some sophomores attend classes in the freshman building in the AM; some sophomores and the juniors attend in the afternoon and have seniors not attend and focus on their Career Internship Programs.

Trailer classrooms will still be on site. The proposed plan calls for two 4-hour shifts; however, the plan has not yet been released with details as to how each shift will handle lunch time; gym; total hours required for each grade by the state and actual hours grades will attend.

These plans are not yet confirmed in total.
