Cool off at local Cooling Centers

Here is a list for local cooling centers in your area.

Park Slope:
When temperatures rise, New York City operates Cooling Centers in air-conditioned public facilities including libraries, senior centers, community centers and NYCHA facilities to offer people relief from the heat. Hot and humid conditions can lead to heat-related health issues, particularly for the elderly. Take extra precaution and stay hydrated. Essex County:


The Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange will be open as an Essex County public cooling station. The arena will be open today from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and tomorrow and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The center is located at 560 Northfield Ave. in West Orange.

In addition, local municipalities have set up centers or have recommended public facilities where citizens can go to get respite from the heat.

BELLEVILLE

• Belleville Senior Citizens building, 125 Franklin Ave., today from noon to 11 p.m.

BLOOMFIELD

• Civic Center, 84 Broad St., open continuously through 6 p.m. tomorrow

Jersey City

Two Senior Centers in Jersey City are offering free cooling centers: Joseph Connors Senior Center at 28 Paterson Street and also the Maureen Collier Senior Center at 355 Bergen Avenue. Hours: 9 AM - 9 PM.

You can also go to the cooling center at The Mary McLeod Bethune Community Center located at 140 Martin Luther King Drive, which will be open 9 AM to 9 PM.
