If you ever looked behind the historic Caldwell Public Library, you wouldn't have seem much. The back entrance, though spacious, is not more than a pile of stones creating a barrier from the parking lot and cement.

But the children's library is on this ground floor. With so many kids using the library facilities not only for reading but also for plenty of activities

one local Caldwell high school student decided to do something to brighten up the area.

Future Eagle Scout Andrew Downey, a junior at James Caldwell High School, dug up the once barren earth behind the Caldwell Public Library and planted some flowers. And, there's a spot for kids to sit - or just enjoy the fresh air.

"I wanted to do something nice behind the library," he said. "And the Kiwanis Club was so great - they paid for all the materials."

At the luncheon meeting yesterday at the Cloverleaf Tavern, the Caldwells Kiwanis Club president Bill Fried gave a check to the young scout.
