George Bush, a one-term president who lived to see his son George W. Bush become the 43rd president, died last night at the age of 94. Mr. Bush had suffered from failing health of late, and also was mourning the death of his wife, Barbara, eight months ago.

Mr. Bush served one term, from 1989 to 1993, and had previously spent his lifetime in public service. He was a beloved World War II veteran, and had been decorated for his achievements as a Navy pilot. Mr. Bush was shot down during the war and had to bail out of his plane into the ocean, as 2 others in his plane died.

He then went on to work in business but also government, with noted success during his long lifetime in public service. Mr. Bush, though only a one-term president. is credited with ending the cold war, which also terminated the then-threat of nuclear war with Russia.
